Info Reviews Instrumentation

Mendelssohn composed the incidental music for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the behest of King Frederick of Prussia while serving as music director at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Now, Brian Slawson brings forth a brilliant percussion arrangement of the “Scherzo,” a movement that underscores the antics of Puck, a clever jokester in the magical world of fairies.

Written for a large mallet ensemble of 12 players, A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Scherzo contains a lot of notes in compound meter that require quick playing at soft levels. While challenging, it's also intended to remain light and playful throughout, with all dynamics being relative.

This piece comes with a full, bound score and includes a CD-Rom containing an audio recording and all individual parts available for printing.
